Chuck Chaney was born in Alaska and moved to Hawaii at the age of five, where he grew up. Chuck moved to California where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in photography and embarked on a career in photography, from building a commercial studio to managing professional retail establishments and providing training and instruction to a variety of clients. With a need for more then returned to academia to pursue a Masters of Fine Arts in studio art, which he completed in 2008. Currently his multidisciplinary practice spans photography, performance, and installation, working to connect with others and create conversation, Chuck works to convey a sense of presence or the memory of presence. In 2008 he founded a summer artist residency in Alaska, The Homestead AK.

The transformation from photography to performance in his practice arose from the desire for the shared experience. Chuck found in the instant of photographic capture, often a solitary experience, the memory of the experience was often lost to the act of capture rather than the memory of the live experience, furthermore forever mediated by the photograph of that moment. Now he works to bring the experienced moment back by creating actions and environments.
